Quarterbacks

The quarterback battle so far this preseason has been one of the best competitions in camp. Obviously, QB1 is already decided, but second and third quarterback on the depth chart is where the battle resides.

Brett Hundley and DeShone Kizer are basically neck and neck, which scares Packers fans for multiple reasons. One of those reasons being that Hundley has always performed well in the preaseason, but we all saw what happened last year when he was given an extended opportunity against starting defenses. The offense was shutout twice and only averaged 16.5 points per game with Hundley under center.

The other reason is due to the Packers trading Damarious Randall, their best defensive back at the time, for Kizer, meaning if the Packers keep three quarterbacks on their roster, then the Packers’ best defensive back at the time was traded for a third-string quarterback.

Unless Hundley is involved in a trade before the regular season, I see the Packers keeping three quarterbacks on the roster.

Don’t forget about Tim Boyle, the undrafted FA quarterback signed out of Eastern Kentucky. He is this year’s fan-craze, similar to Taysom Hill or Joe Callahan. When given his chance towards the end of the first two preseason games, he has taken advantage and showed off his impressive arm strength. Boyle is a prime practice squad candidate, and hopefully one that doesn’t get stolen, like Hill was in 2017.
