Fantasy Football: Draft advice for Green Bay Packers at each position
Wide receiver
There may be competition for places on the Green Bay Packers’ 53-man roster at wide receiver, but the fantasy outlook is much simpler. In re-draft leagues, there are only a few names to consider: Davante Adams, Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison.
Adams is one of the best wide receiver options in fantasy this year. Fantasy Pros has him at eighth in their wide receiver rankings, which is in the second tier along with Michael Thomas, Keenan Allen and A.J. Green. In the second round, you could be more than happy with any of those four players.
Adams proved last year that his production in 2016 was no fluke. All the more impressive was the fact he did it for much of the season without Aaron Rodgers. With Rodgers back this year, and now as the team’s clear number one receiver, Adams can dominate. He has 22 touchdowns over the past two seasons, and is in a great position to finally hit 1,000 yards this year.
It’s easy to forget that Randall Cobb was a WR1 back in 2014. While he has been more inconsistent in recent years, in the eighth round (his current ADP), he’s well worth the gamble. With Jordy Nelson gone, Cobb could see an increase of targets in the slot.
Allison should be a consideration in deeper leagues or three wide receiver leagues.
Unless we’re talking about dynasty leagues, the Packers’ rookie wide receivers shouldn’t be considered in fantasy drafts. Of course, if one of J’Mon Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling or Equanimeous St. Brown starts to impress during the regular season, put in a waiver claim before the rest of the league notices.
