Fantasy Football: Draft advice for Green Bay Packers at each position
Defense and special teams
Despite the improvements the Green Bay Packers have made on defense this offseason, their D/ST isn’t worth a draft pick. Even in the last round.
When drafting a defense, forget about overall season rankings. Instead, look at the Week 1 rankings. You can successfully stream the position throughout the season, week to week, depending on matchups.
The New Orleans Saints are a good candidate for the season opener. They have a talented defense and play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, without Jameis Winston, in Week 1.
If the Saints aren’t available in the final two rounds, the Buffalo Bills (at Baltimore) and Detroit Lions (vs. Jets) are options.
Don’t give into the temptation of drafting the Jacksonville Jaguars too early (ADP is the eighth round). That approach often backfires.
Kicker is another position you can typically stream week to week. Mason Crosby is regularly among the top options at kicker, and he’ll be a good choice to stream Week 1 at home to the Chicago Bears.
Leave your kicker until the final round. You could even decide not to draft one. Instead, add another running back or wide receiver for depth, giving you time to choose which player to cut for a free agent kicker before Week 1 begins.
