Running backs: C+

The running back featured in this game for Green Bay was Jamaal Williams, with a few carries sprinkled in for Ty Montgomery. As a whole, the performance from these two was underwhelming.

Between the two of them, they were able to average just 3.8 yards per carry and struggled to do anything between the tackles. The only time the running game was able to be effective was if the backs were able to get outside.

Williams was only able to put up 47 yards on 15 attempts, with no receptions. Montgomery didn’t fare any better, accumulating seven yards on two attempts and 21 yards through the air on two catches. Neither played a big factor in this game.

In their defense, when your team is down by three scores for most of the game, you are going to get less touches as a running back. As pass blockers, they were able to slow down some rushers, including Montgomery making a nice block that gave Rodgers extra time to find Randall Cobb on the final touchdown. But still there is room for improvement.

Hopefully in Week 2 the Packers will be able to establish the run game early on. In addition, Montgomery needs to be used more creatively in the offense. He brings a unique skill set that can be used to create mismatches against linebackers and in the secondary.
