Sit ‘Em

Jamaal Williams

The Packers still have an open rotation at the running back position, which makes things difficult to predict on who will carry the ball the most. With Aaron Jones still serving his suspension, the carries become narrowed down to Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery.

The Bears defense has improved dramatically during the offseason, which contained Williams to 15 carries for 47 yards. Minnesota’s defense will be a tougher challenge for the young running back.

More from Lombardi Ave

Last week he averaged 3.1 yards per carry, and about the same or less can be suspected for this week. Williams will still be important on blocking the pass rush, and helping to open up the defense with play-action. Unfortunately, neither one of those responsibilities dish out fantasy points.

Jimmy Graham

The last time we saw Rodgers and Graham connect for a touchdown was in Week 2 of the preseason versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. People reached for Graham in fantasy drafts across the country because of his red zone presence.

Week 1 against the Bears, the threat of Graham in the end zone was non-existent. It appears that Graham still needs a little more time to learn the Packers’ offense.

A play sticks out late in the fourth quarter when the Packers had the ball back in their possession. Rodgers tried calling an audible, and Graham didn’t recognize it. Fans could audibly hear Rodgers yell out, “Jimmy move!” on the TV. The Packers ended up taking a delay of game penalty because Graham failed to flank to the opposite side of the line.

Graham will still be the red zone targeted threat that we all expected. It will just take a little more time than anticipated. The Pro Bowl tight end is still learning the pace in which Rodgers rules his offense, and that takes time for anyone new to the team.

There will be a game soon where Rodgers and Graham finally click, and it will be glorious touchdowns from there on out. That game is not this week, however.

Randall Cobb

Last week, Cobb showed any of his doubters exactly what he’s worth to the Packers. Accumulating 142 yards off nine receptions and a touchdown is one heck of a way to start the season.

But if Cobb was so electric in Week 1, why should people leave him on the bench in Week 2? Mike Zimmer has been reviewing the tapes all week, and is very aware how Cobb was able to find openings in the Bears defense. The Vikings won’t make the same mistake, and will have a strategy to stop both Cobb and Graham.

If fantasy owners are feeling extremely brave, they can attempt to keep Cobb in as a FLEX. Most people are going to want to cross their fingers that Cobb catches a pass in the end zone, because Minnesota will keep the middle of the field on lock down.

It’s always hard to make a game time judgement call when your players face such a tough defense such as the Vikings. Hopefully this list will able to ease some tension a little bit. Good luck in fantasy this week! May the touchdowns be plenty, the injuries be limited, and the odds be in your favor.
