4. Antonio Morrison
The Packers as a team lacked effort and fire in the game. One player that could not be said about was Antonio Morrison. Morrison played like a wrecking ball at middle linebacker, throwing his body into the offensive line anytime the Lions ran the ball.
The defense as a whole, and Morrison for that matter, did not have a great game, but, as a fan, it was good seeing a player had not yet packed it in when most around him seemed to have.
Morrison’s future with the team may not be clear. The Packers may bring in a defensive coordinator and style that may not suit Morrison’s style. He best fits as an inside guy in a 3-4, so should the Packers switch to a 4-3, Morrison may find himself in a similar situation he was in to start this year.
Oren Burks did not have the impact I thought he might. Being a third-round draft pick, I’m certain he will get every chance to succeed, but there is still a place for Morrison on the roster.
Morrison could be a solid backup player and situational sub for the Packers next year. He’s still on his rookie deal so he won’t be expensive, and with a different skill set from what Burks brings, wouldn’t cut into the role Burks would fill.
