The latest NFL Spin Zone mock draft has the Green Bay Packers adding a top edge rusher and wide receiver in the first round.

Florida edge rusher Jachai Polite has been a popular selection for the Packers in many mock drafts, and he’s Green Bay’s first pick in the latest NFL Spin Zone mock draft.

With the second selection in the first round, at No. 30 overall, Randy Gurzi of NFL Spin Zone has the Packers selecting South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

Even if the Packers add an edge rusher in free agency, it will still be one of the team’s top needs when the 2019 NFL Draft gets underway in April. And if Polite is still available when Green Bay hits the clock for the first time, it could be an easy decision for general manager Brian Gutekunst to make.

Kalyn Kahler of Sports Illustrated wrote that “Polite is an explosive presence coming off the edge”, which is something Green Bay’s defense desperately needs.

With the Packers needing more production from their edge rushers in 2019, Polite could be the perfect addition with their first selection on Day 1.

Green Bay could also use an early-round selection on a wide receiver, especially if Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison aren’t brought back.

The Packers already have an elite outside wide receiver in Davante Adams, but Deebo Samuel could be a great complement. Joe Marino of The Draft Network had high praise for Samuel in his draft profile.

Marino wrote: “An outstanding route runner to all levels of the field, Samuel is a fit for any scheme with the upside to play outside and from the slot.”

The best part of having two first-round picks is that it gives the Packers flexibility. They can add an edge rusher or safety with their first pick, but still be able to select one of the top pass catchers in the class later in the round.
