10 things Green Bay Packers must do to reach the Super Bowl in 2020
2. Secure home-field advantage in playoffs
The past two times the Packers have come within a game of the Super Bowl, they’ve lost. And both of those games were played away from Lambeau Field. I know, I know, the Packers won on the road in the NFC Championship Game in their last Super Bowl run. They also lost the last time they hosted the title game back in 2007.
But by securing home-field advantage in the playoffs, the Packers can give themselves their best opportunity to return to the Super Bowl. The Packers are a much better team at Lambeau Field, and the later the season goes on and as the weather gets colder, that only becomes more important.
In the past six Super Bowls, nine of the 12 participants had home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Four of those games featured the top seed from both conferences. Three times a No. 2 seed also made it to the Super Bowl. You have to go all the way back to 2013 to find a Super Bowl that featured a team that played in the wild-card round.
Winning the top seed in the NFC isn’t easy, but doing so would put the Packers two wins at Lambeau Field away from the Super Bowl.
