Packers: An early look at Green Bay’s 2020 free agents
An early look at the Green Bay Packers’ 2020 unrestricted free agents.
The focus is on this year’s free agency, which begins in less than a month, and also the 2019 NFL Draft. But it’s also important to look ahead. The Green Bay Packers will have a number of tough decisions to make in free agency a year from now.
The amount of money spent in free agency this offseason will impact how much they’ll have available to re-sign players next year.
Let’s take a look at the Packers’ 2020 unrestricted free agents.
Packers 2020 unrestricted free agents
Kapri Bibbs, RB
Bryan Bulaga, T
Mason Crosby, K
Mike Daniels, DE
Trevor Davis, WR
Kyler Fackrell, OLB
Dean Lowry, DE
Blake Martinez, ILB
Antonio Morrison, ILB
Tramon Williams, CB
For a few of the names on this list, it’s no guarantee they’ll still be on the roster when the 2019 season begins. Jason Spriggs is an example. Green Bay could free up $1.13 million in cap room if it decides to move on from Spriggs this offseason, according to Spotrac.
Right now, in the 2019 offseason, Mike Daniels and Blake Martinez stand out as the top priorities for the Packers to bring back.
However, Daniels will enter the 2020 offseason at 30 years old and has had a couple of injuries the past two seasons. If he can stay healthy in 2019, there’s a good chance he’ll get a new contract.
Bryan Bulaga will turn 31 in 2020, but if he can stay healthy and put together another strong season in 2019, there’s a chance he’ll be back on a short-term deal.
The 2019 season is an important one for Kyler Fackrell. After finishing 2018 with a career-best and team-leading 10.5 sacks, hitting double-digit sacks again would ensure he’ll earn a big contract next offseason.
Outside of one bad game, Mason Crosby was about as consistent as ever in 2018. Another good season will all but guarantee he’ll be offered a new deal in 2020.
Who do you think will be the top priority for the Packers to re-sign next offseason?
