Packers 2019 mock draft: Both sides of the ball addressed in first round
Pick 17: New York Giants
Jonah Williams, OL (Alabama)
Nope, the Giants don’t take a quarterback with this pick either. In the meantime, while I predicted earlier that the Giants fully accept a tank for Trevor Lawrence, they continue to build a roster around Saquon Barkley and add pieces all around their roster until their quarterback of the future arrives.
Although the Giants added some pieces to their offensive line, they are still in need of some solid players up front. Jonah Williams has a high ceiling, as well as a great work ethic. With how often Barkley is used and will continue to be used in the Giants offense, more talented blockers are needed up front. Williams could immediately start at right tackle until Nate Solder‘s time with the Giants is up.
Pick 18: Minnesota Vikings
Cody Ford, OL (Oklahoma)
The Vikings offensive line has been one of the worst in the NFL for a few seasons now, even though they spent a couple of high picks on the offensive line. With a good defense, they can address the offensive line in the first round of the 2019 Draft. Cody Ford could be a plug-and-play starter at guard, with the potential to take over at tackle if the Vikings are able to maximize his pass-blocking potential. Ford is a large body who moves pretty well for his size.
Pick 19: Tennessee Titans
Garrett Bradbury, OL (NC State)
After spending a majority of the 2018 season looking truly abysmal running the ball, Derrick Henry finished the year on a tear his last four weeks, racking up 585 yards rushing. I imagine the Titans will go into 2019 with a heavy focus on running the ball with Henry, which means they will need some better interior blockers.
Garrett Bradbury is an athletic interior offensive lineman who is exceptional with his hands. Bradbury could become an immediate starter for the Titans at guard, then depending on whether or not the Titans decide to keep Ben Jones around after his current contract is up after the 2019 season, Bradbury could be moved to his natural position at center, where he was highly successful.
Pick 20: Pittsburgh Steelers
Noah Fant, TE (Iowa)
While most people believe T.J. Hockenson of Iowa will be the first tight end taken in the draft, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Noah Fant taken first. Fant has a little bit better of an athletic profile. While not being an elite blocker at the position like Hockenson is, Fant still is no slouch in the blocking department.
Fant will be able to create mismatches with his mix of speed and length. He will help an offense that just lost two of their biggest weapons in Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell. The Steelers keep Fant in the black and yellow and are very happy in doing so.
