Ranking Packers’ choices at No. 12 in 2019 NFL Draft
By Evan Siegel
1. Trade down into late teens
There are so many directions the Packers could go at number 12. Given the signing of Billy Turner, the offensive line can be addressed in a number of ways, potentially with a guard at number 30 or later. The defense could still use another pass rusher, middle linebacker, and at least one safety, and Noah Fant would be an excellent option if the Packers pass on T.J. Hockenson.
If Green Bay can orchestrate a trade with the Giants and move back to number 17, they could recoup in all likelihood a third and fifth-round pick for moving down just five spots. Given the fact that they already have 10 selections, moving back up from pick 30 or later in the draft to secure someone else would not be costly at all.
The Giants would likely be moving up to draft quarterback Dwayne Haskins out of Ohio State, meaning the Packers would only have to sweat out four picks until they are on the clock at 17.
Devin Bush likely would be off the board at this point, but Jonah Williams, Marquise Brown, Noah Fant, Brian Burns, and Johnathan Abram all have a good chance of being on the board for Green Bay. Securing a player they would have been fine selecting at number 12 while adding more draft capital would be a home run for the Packers, much as they did last year.
