2. Should the Packers have drafted a wide receiver?

The Packers addressed just about every team need this offseason, but what’s notable is the fact Brian Gutekunst didn’t bring in a wide receiver either in free agency or the draft. This backs up the confidence shown in the young wide receiver corps by Gutekunst and Matt LaFleur.

But it’s fair to say the Packers are taking a risk. If Davante Adams misses any time due to injury, can the group of Equanimeous St. Brown, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Geronimo Allison and J’Mon Moore step up? Outside of Adams, the Packers lack experience at wide receiver.

The Packers passed up the opportunity to draft a wide receiver early — Marquise Brown, N’Keal Harry, A.J. Brown and Deebo Samuel were all available.

Gutekunst has confidence in last year’s draft picks, which is understandable. EQ and MVS both showed they can be big-play receivers in this offense last season. If the two can be more consistent in 2019, the Packers won’t have any concerns about their wide receivers. And let’s not forget that Allison was playing excellent football before getting hurt last season. His absence had a significant impact on the Packers offense.

There’s reason to be excited about the young receivers on the roster, but Gutekunst is assuming Allison stays healthy and the second-year players step up. It’s a risk he’s willing to take.
