5. Russell Wilson (Seattle Seahawks): Wilson got a much-deserved extension this offseason and I am fascinated to see what him and the rest of the Seahawks organization accomplish after the ending of the iconic “Legion of Boom.”

My prediction is that Wilson at least gets Seattle to the playoffs once again with the potential for the NFC West crown as well.

4. Andrew Luck (Indianapolis Colts): The Colts have had one of football’s most impressive turnarounds in recent history under the leadership of Chris Ballard, Frank Reich, and Andrew Luck. If the term “MVP” was applied with strict denotation each year it is fair to say that Luck would have won at least one of those by now.

3. Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs): While Mahomes showed that he may be the most talented quarterback in football last season, I am not prepared to rank him over the likes of Tom Brady (the greatest player to ever play the game) and Aaron Rodgers (one of the most talented quarterbacks to ever play the game alongside John Elway).

If Mahomes has another MVP-level season this year, he has a strong chance of being ranked first on this list next year, but too many times I have seen quarterbacks have amazing early career starts, only to fall back to earth (Robert Griffin III, Derek Carr, and Dak Prescott are recent examples) for me to rank Mahomes over these legends of the game.

2. Tom Brady (New England Patriots): Tom Brady won his sixth title last season, cementing himself as the greatest football player ever, in my mind.

There is certainly the risk for any quarterback in their mid-to-late-thirties to fall off (and certainly risks involved for 42-year-old quarterbacks to do so), but Brady has proven time after time that he is not any other quarterback and he has shown little signs of slowing down.

1. Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers): Rodgers is in between the Mahomes and Brady age range in my mind (even if he isn’t mathematically). Rodgers has enough years to show off his prime physical talent like Mahomes, but there is also the chance (given his age) for Rodgers to fall off physically (particularly with his recent health scares) like Brady has the chance to, while also yet possessing a cemented first-ballot Hall-of-Fame legacy.

In all likelihood, I expect Rodgers to play like his past self over the next few years, and if he does so this year, he will likely be an MVP candidate that carries Green Bay to the NFC North crown.
