3. Marquez Valdes-Scantling, WR

Marquez Valdes-Scantling could end up being one of the best late-round pickups in fantasy football this season. According to Fantasy Football Calculator, his average draft position makes him the WR60, and he’s being selected as late as the 14th round.

Be sure to watch MVS closely this summer to get a better idea of his role in Matt LaFleur’s offense, but the early signs particularly exciting. As Rob Demovsky of ESPN noted during the first practice of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, Valdes-Scantling started at wide receiver with Davante Adams. Now that’s interesting, as it could mean Allison will be used in the slot with MVS starting in two-wide receiver sets.

This backs up a report by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, who noted that MVS has impressed LaFleur and the new coaching staff. Breer wrote that he “has quickly picked up Matt LaFleur’s system”.

Early signs seem to be pointing to MVS playing a key role in LaFleur’s offense, and that could lead to big-play potential. If he’s the starter with Adams, Valdes-Scantling will almost certainly see an increase in his 73 targets from last season and he could become a valuable player in fantasy football.

There’s still a long way to go before the season starts, but right now, MVS looks to be the Packers wide receiver to target in drafts after Davante Adams.
