Safeties (4)

Adrian Amos, Darnell Savage, Raven Greene, Josh Jones

We’re yet to see the Green Bay Packers’ new starting safety duo in action together at training camp. First-round pick Darnell Savage Jr. hasn’t practiced so far as he recovers from having his wisdom teeth removed. But he should be back on the field shortly. While no date has been given for his return, it would make sense if it’s Tuesday, as that will be the team’s first practice after its first break.

According to Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Raven Greene has been the starter alongside Adrian Amos.

One of the top questions for training camp was whether Josh Jones would still be part of the team’s plans or whether he’d be traded. So far, there’s been no sign of a trade. Jones has been practicing, and Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel noted on Thursday that he spent some time working at inside linebacker.

Jones’ role in this defense will be interesting to see once Savage returns to practice. Will Jones continue to work at inside linebacker, or will he be a backup safety? Or maybe he won’t even be on the team once the final 53-man roster is released in September.

Time will tell. What we do already know is that the Packers have a lot of talent at safety.
