3. Packers will have a top 10 defense

With a strong defensive line, an improved pass rush and an excellent secondary, the Packers have the potential to finish in the top 10 for total defense.

The team finished 18th in that category last year, despite having little production from the edge rushers outside of Kyler Fackrell, poor play at safety and injuries to key starters along the defensive line. It was also the first season under a new defensive coordinator.

But Matt LaFleur’s decision to keep Mike Pettine on the staff this year was absolutely the right call. Pettine wasn’t the problem in 2018, and with more talent to work with this season, his defense can be very good.

Perhaps what highlights the amount of talent this young defense has is the fact that Rashan Gary has only been mentioned once in this article. He was a top 12 pick in April’s draft, the Packers’ first choice and a player set for an important role right away.

The Packers might not have the best defense in the division — the NFC North has a lot of defensive talent — but this group absolutely has the potential to finish inside the top 10 in the NFL this year.
