Three Packers who increased their stock in preseason
2. Allen Lazard
Another wide receiver who has impressed is Allen Lazard, and he’s also making a strong case for a roster spot. Lazard, who was undrafted in 2018, has led the Packers in receiving in both preseason games. He’s caught four passes for 90 yards and a touchdown.
It’s important for any receiver on the roster to earn Aaron Rodgers’ trust. And Lazard looks to have done just that. Rodgers had high praise for Lazard this week:
“I think he’s had a really nice camp. He’s made a bunch of plays,” Rodgers said on Monday. “He’s always showing up on special teams, he does things the right way in practice. I think he’s put himself in a position to legitimately be playing for all 32 teams.”
Making the roster won’t be easy as there is so much competition at the position. Lazard is competing with Darrius Shepherd, Trevor Davis, and J’Mon Moore for potentially only one roster spot. But if Lazard doesn’t make the Packers roster, there’s a good chance he’ll be making plays somewhere else in the NFL this year.
But with Rodgers going out of his way to point out Lazard’s performances this summer, he has a chance to make the 53-man roster.
