2. Wide receiver

Trevor Davis had himself one heck of a return to the field last week in Canada. Over 100 all-purpose yards in one half versus the Raiders put Davis back in the race for one of the remaining wide receiver spots.

With Allen Lazard and Equanimeous St. Brown both nursing injuries, this would seem to be the perfect opportunity for Davis to cement his place on the team.

It’ll be interesting to see how many receivers the Packers keep on the roster this year. What is even more interesting to see is how this plays out. We know St. Brown’s injury is in the 4-6 week range, making him a candidate for injured reserve.

What we don’t know is Lazard’s status. Coach Matt LaFleur announced this week he won’t be talking about injuries anymore, so we may not find out Lazard’s status until well after cuts.

Should both be long term, they will have to be carried over onto the initial 53-man roster in order for either to be designated to return. That would make for interesting decisions on the bottom of the roster. Would the Packers keep Davis as well as Darrius Shepherd? Or would the Packers risk exposing Shepherd to waivers after his solid camp to keep J’Mon Moore?

In any event, it would appear Davis may control his own destiny when it comes to his place. Have another solid if unspectacular game and he’s in. Get injured or play terrible, then his spot becomes a question mark.
