Preston Smith

It’s impossible to mention one Smith without the other. Za’Darius and Preston Smith do their post-game interviews together, and they’ve also been regularly meeting at the quarterback. Both free-agent signings have made an immediate impact on the defense both with production and their leadership.

Preston Smith currently leads the team in sacks with 4.5. It’s still early in the season, but he’s on pace for 18 sacks on the year, which shows just how well he’s been playing. In addition, Smith has made 15 tackles and eight quarterback hits in the opening month of the season.

But that’s still not all. Smith has also forced a fumble, has made one interception and also has a pass defense to his name. He’s been a game-changer on defense and made a number of huge plays already for the Packers.

The two Smiths have been the main reason why last season’s biggest weakness on defense, the pass rush, is now arguably the greatest strength. The Packers didn’t have their best game defensively against the Eagles last week, but overall after four games, their consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks has been impressive.

Both Smiths have been outstanding, but it’s Preston Smith who is currently slightly ahead in the lead for most sacks on the team.
