3. A.J. Green, WR, Bengals

Of the three, this is perhaps the least likely. A.J. Green is yet to play this season due to injury. And according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, he’s expected to be out for at least three more games. However, if Green is close to returning around the trade deadline, making a trade could make sense.

Green is an elite wide receiver and among the best in the NFL when healthy. He has six seasons with at least 1,000 yards receiving, and has 63 career touchdowns in eight years. The seven-time Pro Bowler has a cap hit of $15.18 million this season, according to Spotrac, which could make things difficult for the Packers. But if they can make it work, they wouldn’t have to worry about a long-term commitment as Green is a free agent in the offseason.

And just like in the other two scenarios, Green plays on a team with a losing record after four weeks. With Green becoming a free agent next year, the Bengals could decide to bring a draft pick back in a trade.

With the trade deadline only four weeks away, it’ll be interesting to see how active the Packers are. GM Brian Gutekunst is more than willing to make a move if there’s a player he thinks will upgrade the roster, and that should make for an interesting lead up to the deadline.
