Packers stock up, stock down Week 7: Allen Lazard delivers
Stock up: Mason Crosby
It’s easy to forget that Mason Crosby wasn’t even guaranteed to make the Packers’ roster a couple of months ago. He had to outperform Sam Ficken in a training camp battle that lasted all the way through the preseason in August. Crosby won the job and has been close to perfect when called on this season.
Crosby made all five of his kicks on Monday night, three field goals and two extra-point attempts. The spotlight was on Matt Prater, who might be the best kicker in the NFL along with Justin Tucker, who was routinely kicking from over 50 yards as he always does. But it was Crosby who quietly kept the Packers in the game when they needed him, then finished the game with a walk-off field goal, and a Lambeau Leap to go with it.
On and off the field, Crosby is a class act. And after a tough summer, nobody deserved this moment more than him.
Packers fans shouldn’t take for granted just how consistent he’s been through the years, either. Good kickers don’t grow on trees, as is evident by taking a look around the NFL. But Crosby gets the job done year in, year out.
Crosby has converted 90.9 percent of his field goals this year, an excellent start to the season.
