1. Jamaal Williams

After being the star of the game against the Cowboys, Aaron Jones had one of his worst games of his young career. A fumble lost that led to a score, then dropping what would have been a sure touchdown, Jones was not on his game Monday night.

Enter Jamaal Williams.

Coming off a scary hit against the Eagles, Williams was ready to show he could have been the missing link in the Packers’ only loss. Though not as explosive as Jones, Williams can get the tough yards and still break off a long run. Williams finished his day with 136 all-purpose yards (104 rushing, 32 receiving) and scored the first touchdown of the game for the Pack on a beautifully set up screen that Williams finished with a strong stiff arm.

Jones is a star in the making. But Williams is showing he is also a force to be reckoned with. The Packers need to be smart with Jones, and using Williams is the best way to do that. Williams’ skills perfectly mesh with Jones’ and are slightly better than Jones’ in the passing game.

With the injuries at receiver, it’s imperative the Packers keep a strong running game. With two backs that balance each other out, Matt LaFleur has a strong base to get his offense going. The fact that both can help in the pass game when called upon makes it even better.

The team is used to relying on Aaron Rodgers and his brilliance. For the first time in his career, they don’t have to. A strong defense and a run game is the key to this team. And the beauty of it is, Rodgers will shine. He will find his rhythm and work out the kinks. Until then, the team has two strong backs to lean on.
