Week 17: at Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have a lot of talent and they’re not far away from competing in the NFC North, but they too often fall short in close games.

One of those games was at Lambeau Field in Week 6. While some poor officiating certainly helped the Packers, it wouldn’t have mattered had the Lions scored touchdowns rather than having to settle for five Matt Prater field goals.

The Packers were fortunate to come away with the all-important win that evening, but the Lions will get revenge in the season finale. Ford Field is a tough place to visit. It was after a defeat there in 2014 that put the Packers 1-2 on the season and led to the famous “R-E-L-A-X” quote from Aaron Rodgers.

The Packers will be able to relax with the fact they’ve secured a playoff berth, and I believe they’ll also win the NFC North. But they won’t get the victory over the Lions, losing their second in a row for the first time of the season.

With an 11-5 record, Green Bay wins the division but has to settle for either the third or fourth seed. And after losing two straight, LaFleur would need to turn things around quickly ahead of a home game in the wild-card round.

Prediction: Lions 24, Packers 21 (11-5)
