Packers: Three changes they need to make quickly after loss to 49ers
2. Adjust snap counts at wide receiver
The offense has started showing some concerning, but familiar signs. Aaron Rodgers drops back to pass. He waits. And waits. But the receivers are covered. It was a surprise when the Packers opted against trading for a wide receiver ahead of the deadline, and it continues to be an issue.
Geronimo Allison has struggled this season. In 11 games, he has just 220 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 20 yards per game. Allison had three catches for nine yards on Sunday night, as well as a costly drop and penalty.
Despite that, he still played on 68 percent of the offensive snaps, according to Pro Football Reference. That’s second among wide receivers behind only Davante Adams.
Allen Lazard has seen his snap counts rise this season, but he should be the clear number two wide receiver in this offense. With Allison and Marquez Valdes-Scantling failing to make an impact this season, Matt LaFleur should consider making changes with how many snaps each player gets. Why not give Lazard or Jake Kumerow some more opportunities?
How about featuring more two-tight end sets? Using the running backs more often? LaFleur should be willing to make changes because Allison has struggled to make an impact despite playing a lot of snaps.
