2. Fix the inside linebacker position

While help is needed on offense, inside linebacker will be one of the biggest needs this offseason. Blake Martinez makes a lot of tackles, but he struggles in coverage. It comes back to needing more speed on defense. Martinez is a good player, but he lacks the speed and athleticism the Packers need in the middle of the defense.

Martinez will become a free agent this offseason, and one has to wonder whether he’s played his final snap in Green Bay. B.J. Goodson is also a free agent.

If neither player is re-signed, the Packers would be left with Oren Burks and Ty Summers as the top two inside linebackers who are currently on the 53-man roster.

I’m sure many Packers fans won’t love the idea of using yet another first-round pick on defense, but it’s something they’ll seriously need to consider. Inside linebacker hasn’t been a priority position for this team in the draft, and they’ve regularly waited until Day 3. But with issues at the position once again, that might need to finally change in 2020.

If not early in the draft, Gutekunst will have to look at potential options in the first couple of weeks in free agency or via a trade.
