Round 2 (62): Brandon Aiyuk, WR, Arizona State

Just like inside linebacker is to the defense, wide receiver is Green Bay’s top offensive need this spring. The Packers have had great success drafting receivers in the second round, from Jordy Nelson to Randall Cobb to Greg Jennings to Davante Adams. Oddly enough, they haven’t drafted a receiver as high as the second round since selecting Adams in 2014.

That needs to change. While the Packers have a different GM to the one who drafted the four receivers mentioned, Brandon Aiyuk could be the next star receiver to be selected by Green Bay on Day 2.

As Gutekunst admitted in his end-of-season press conference, he hoped to add an “explosive offensive player” ahead of the trade deadline. Matt LaFleur needs a receiver who can make big plays after the catch, and that’s what Aiyuk can do. According to Pro Football Focus, Aiyuk averaged 9.9 yards after the catch during his time at Arizona State, which ranks first in this year’s class.

Averaging 18.3 yards per reception this past season, Aiyuk can be the explosive offensive player Gutekunst was looking for.

That’s before we mention his ability on special teams as a returner, another area the Packers could be looking to improve, depending on the future of free-agent Tyler Ervin.
