If the Packers look for defensive reinforcements during free agency, Javon Hargrave could be a great addition, assuming he doesn’t re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Packers need to give Kenny Clark some help along the defensive line. Green Bay ranked 23rd in run defense in 2019, allowing just over 120 yards per game on the ground. And we all know what happened in the defense’s embarrassing performance trying to stop the run against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship defeat.

Adding improvements up front will need to happen this offseason, and Hargrave could help.

Hargrave took on a bigger role in the Steelers defense this year and didn’t disappoint. According to Pro Football Focus, he had 49 pressures this season, which ranks inside the top 10 among interior defenders.

Hargrave has 10.5 sacks over the past two seasons but just as importantly for the Packers, he’s also strong against the run. A pairing of Hargrave and Clark along the defensive line would be a strong one and would go a long way to solving the Packers’ issues stopping the run.

There would still be a need at inside linebacker, but Hargrave would help strengthen the defensive line. And at 27 years old, he’s just entering the prime of his career.
