A breakout season doesn’t necessarily need to mean that a player becomes a superstar and one of the best at their position. It can simply be a big jump in production from one season to the next. That’s what the Packers could get from third-year wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, who missed all of the 2019 season due to injury.

When the Packers opted against adding a wide receiver in either free agency or the draft last season, part of the reason would’ve been that they expected St. Brown to play an important role in 2019. Instead, he ended up on injured reserve prior to the start of the regular season.

That’s not to say St. Brown would’ve necessarily fixed the current problems at the position, but he could’ve made a difference. EQ made some plays in his rookie season, catching 21 passes for 328 yards, averaging 15.6 yards per catch. He showed an ability to create yards after the catch, something the Packers lacked this season. Of EQ’s 328 yards in 2018, 120 came after the catch.

Prior to getting injured in the preseason, Aaron Rodgers had praised St. Brown for his work at training camp.

Expect the Packers to bring in talent at the wide receiver position this offseason, but don’t forget about St. Brown. He could also make a difference in 2020.
