While much of the focus is on the most-likely first-rounders at wide receiver, Brian Gutekunst might decide to address another position on Day 1. And there’s a reason for that. The depth at receiver is incredible this year and the Packers will have plenty of opportunities to find offensive talent on Day 2.

A player that immediately comes to mind is Denzel Mims. The 6-foot-3, 206-pound receiver might not get the same attention as others in the class but he could be a great pick by the Packers in the second round.

Matt Verderame of FanSided wrote an excellent article about why Mims will command attention at the combine this week.

“The former Biletnikoff Watch member has a large catch radius with terrific hands and a long stride,” Verderame wrote. “Mims also showed the ability to stack corners off the line with subtle moves to beat tight man coverage.”

As Dan Schmelzer of NFL Mocks noted, Mims’ draft stock improved after he impressed at the Senior Bowl. If he can back that up with a good performance this week, he’ll continue his rise up draft boards.

If the Packers don’t go wide receiver on Day 1, Mims could be a candidate in the second round. He’s a player to watch at the combine.
