Packers: Ranking top offseason needs ahead of free agency 2020
10. Safety
One of Green Bay’s top offseason needs a year ago, Gutekunst has restocked the position with talent. Free-agent signing Adrian Amos started all 16 games and first-round pick Darnell Savage was selected to the 2019 PFWA All-Rookie Team. Raven Greene adds some depth. The Packers may look for another backup if Ibraheim Campbell departs in free agency.
9. Center
No center in the league ranked higher in ESPN’s pass block win rate in 2019 than Corey Linsley, who also hasn’t missed a game since 2016. That said, it may be time to consider his long-term replacement. Linsley is a free agent in 2021 and given the number of tough decisions to come between now and then, the Packers might not be able to afford to re-sign him.
8. Edge rusher
Last year’s biggest need was fixed by the incredible play of Preston and Za’Darius Smith. No pass-rushing tandem had more sacks in 2019 than the Smith Bros. However, the Packers will want to see more from first-round pick Rashan Gary next season. Beyond the top three, there isn’t much depth at the position. Kyler Fackrell is a free agent and Tom Silverstein and Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that it’s unlikely he’ll be re-signed. At a premium position, the Packers should add more depth.
7. Cornerback
Jaire Alexander and Kevin King give the Packers a good starting combination on the outside but, like Linsley, King is a free agent in 2021. In the short term, Tramon Williams is a free agent this offseason. Chandon Sullivan impressed in 2019 but Josh Jackson could barely get on the field. Beyond Alexander and King, there is some doubt with the depth at cornerback.
