Trade for David Njoku

OK, David Njoku isn’t a free agent. But that doesn’t mean the Packers might not be able to make a trade with the Cleveland Browns.

As ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported, the Packers were one of the interested teams in signing Austin Hooper, but he is set to sign with the Browns. Brian Gutekunst clearly recognizes the need at tight end. Remaining free agents include Eric Ebron and Tyler Eifert, but a potential move the Packers could look to make is a trade for Njoku.

With Hooper on his way to Cleveland, perhaps the Browns would be willing to listen to trade offers.

Njoku spent the majority of the 2019 season on injured reserve and only played in four games, but he showed his potential in his first two seasons with the Browns. His receiving numbers improved from 2017 to 2018. He finished 2018 with 639 yards and four touchdowns.

Njoku is a former first-round pick and is still only 23 years old. In the Packers offense, he could have a featured role and become an important target for Aaron Rodgers.

The Browns might have no interest in trading Njoku, but Gutekunst should pick up the phone and ask the question. A potential deal likely wouldn’t be a big risk for the Packers, who have 10 draft picks this year, but Njoku could be a great addition to LaFleur’s offense.
