To this point, the Packers haven’t brought back veteran Tramon Williams. If they don’t, the cornerback position will be a need in the draft. But the Packers could’ve signed Williams’ replacement in free agency.

The Philadelphia Eagles got one of the steals of free agency by signing cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman to a one-year deal worth just $1.35 million. That’s an incredibly team-friendly deal for a player who can start in their defense. And he could’ve been a starter in Green Bay too as the slot corner.

Robey-Coleman was ranked 19th among all cornerbacks by Pro Football Focus last season, and signing him would’ve been another low-risk move by Brian Gutekunst.

With the Los Angeles Rams last season, Robey-Coleman played in all 16 games and made seven pass defenses, 36 tackles and forced two fumbles. While he didn’t come away with an interception last year, he’s shown throughout his career he can do just that with five picks in the three seasons prior to 2019.

Unless the Packers re-sign Williams, they’ll almost certainly need to address the cornerback position later this month, especially given how often Mike Pettine likes to play with five or six defensive backs on the field.

Signing Robey-Coleman would’ve been a smart move.
