Round 2 (40): Tee Higgins, WR, Clemson

Wide receiver remained a major need after selecting Queen earlier in the draft. When Clemson’s Tee Higgins, a first-round talent, was still on the board at No. 40 I knew I had to move up. Fortunately, I was able to make a trade with the Houston Texans, sending the Packers’ original third-round pick as well as the pick received in the previous trade, along with a sixth-rounder. In return, the Packers moved up to No. 40 overall and also brought back a fourth-rounder.

Higgins would solve many of the Packers’ problems at wide receiver and he’d be a perfect complement to Davante Adams. The 6-foot-4 receiver is a great red-zone threat and has 25 touchdown catches over the past two seasons.

Higgins has an outstanding catch radius which would go a long way to earning Aaron Rodgers’ trust early on.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared Higgins to A.J. Green, writing that “he’s an instinctive ball-winner whose traits should win out and make him a very good NFL starter.”

Considering how important it is to add one of the top receivers in the class, making the bold move to trade up this far could pay off. With two picks inside the top-40, the Packers are able to add Day 1 starters at positions of need.
