Round 3 (94): Josiah Deguara, TE, Cincinnati

Once again, when this pick was announced, it seemed a strange decision. But unlike the Dillon move, this one is still a head-scratcher.

What this pick again seems to indicate is that Green Bay is committed to lean on the run game more often in 2020. Josiah Deguara can help with that. Deguara can be used in a number of roles. The Packers may use him as a fullback and as a pass-catcher. While he could be a valuable addition to the offense as he’ll be able to run-block and also catch passes, this was very early in the draft to make this move.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein projected Deguara to be a sixth-rounder, but the Packers selected him 94th overall.

This is an area the Packers could’ve addressed on Day 3 of the draft. In the third round, they could’ve got help on defense with Ohio State linebacker Malik Harrison, who went four picks later to the Baltimore Ravens. Or Akeem Davis-Gaither out of Appalachian State.

They could’ve added talent to the defensive line with Leki Fotu out of Utah or strengthened the offensive line depth with tackle Ben Bartch out of St. John’s.

Deguara could be a replacement for Danny Vitale in LaFleur’s offense. He could be a good pick, but in the third round? Not so sure.
