Packers 53-man roster predictions following 2020 NFL Draft
Quarterbacks (2)
Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love
Here we go.
Get used to the quarterback room being the focus of training camp. How will Aaron Rodgers react to the first-round pick of Jordan Love? Will he mentor Love over the next few years or be frustrated that the Packers have drafted his potential replacement? The fact is, both of these quarterbacks are on the roster for the 2020 season with the aim of helping this team return to the Super Bowl. It’s Rodgers’ job for a number of seasons yet, and Love is the clear backup.
There won’t be, and shouldn’t be, any controversy over the starting job even if Rodgers struggles in any games. But you can bet his first bad performance of the season will be greeted with calls for Love to take over.
The question for general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur to decide is whether they want to keep three quarterbacks. If they want to keep Love off the field as much as possible in his rookie season, perhaps they’ll keep Tim Boyle around to take any snaps should Rodgers need to exit the game.
But my guess is it will be just the two quarterbacks on the roster: Rodgers and Love. Hopefully, Rodgers will stay healthy and play at an MVP level. But the popcorn will be pulled out if Love has to enter a game at any stage.
