Running backs (4)

Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, AJ Dillon, Tyler Ervin

This is an area the Packers have strengthened in the offseason. And given Matt LaFleur’s commitment to running the ball, it wouldn’t be a major surprise if they decided to keep a fifth running back on the 53-man roster. That could depend on Dexter Williams’ progress over the summer. If he shows improvements on his rookie year, the Packers may keep him on the roster.

But if they go with four, this is a strong group.

We all know how talented Aaron Jones is. A breakout 1,000-yard season in 2019 also included an incredible 23 total touchdowns including the two playoff games.

AJ Dillon won’t provide competition; he’s a complement to Jones’ style. Dillon adds power to the Packers’ backfield which could lead to more stacked boxes and defenses being forced to play more defensive linemen. As we saw back in 2013 and 2014 when Eddie Lacy was running all over defenses, this is great news for the passing game.

Tyler Ervin’s primary role will be to make a difference on special teams but we saw glimpses of his potential when worked into LaFleur’s offense. He can provide a nice change-of-pace in the backfield and offers good depth behind the top three running backs.
