Packers: Top 10 players to watch at training camp in 2020
9. Josh Jackson
Consider this a make-or-break season for third-year cornerback Josh Jackson, who was Green Bay’s second-round draft choice in 2018. If he fails to make an impact this season, it’ll likely be his last with the Packers. He needs to prove himself, starting this summer at training camp.
The Packers clearly had high hopes for Jackson coming out of college, selecting him on Day 2. Prior to that, many draft analysts believed Jackson was a first-round talent. So far, that hasn’t been the case. Jackson didn’t have the trust of the coaching staff last season, resulting in his percentage of defensive snaps dropping from 68 percent in his rookie year to only 10 percent in 2019, according to Pro Football Reference.
There’s been some talk about what Jackson’s best position is. Should he make a move to safety? If second-year Darnell Savage spends some time at slot corner, moving Jackson to safety could make some sense.
Jackson was a turnover machine in his final year at Iowa as he intercepted eight passes. Maybe playing at safety will help him go after the football more often.
No matter where he lines up, Jackson needs to impress over the summer to force his way into Mike Pettine’s plans on defense.
