4. The pass rush will be even stronger in 2020

The Packers’ pass rush took a big step forward last season with the signings of Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith. The two put up more sacks together than any other pass-rushing tandem in the NFL. Here’s the scary part for each team on the Packers’ schedule in 2020: the pass rush could be even better this season.

First of all, the Smiths dominated despite the fact it was their first season playing together and in Mike Pettine’s system. They’ve now had a full season to build familiarity with this defense and the scheme, which should make things easier for them.

Then there is Rashan Gary, the Packers’ top pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. With Kyler Fackrell gone, Gary now has a chance to increase his snap counts and contribute in a big way on defense. Pettine said this offseason that he expects Gary to have an increased role this year.

Gary, like Za’Darius Smith, has the versatility to rush from the edge or inside. He has star potential, and if he can take a step up in year two, the Packers’ pass rush can dominate. Not only will the Smith Bros. have more familiarity in Pettine’s scheme, but the same is also true for Gary.
