3. Dexter Williams

Dexter Williams could be the running back who misses out on the Green Bay Packers’ 53-man roster this year. AJ Dillon’s arrival makes the backfield even more crowded, and while the depth at running back is great for the Packers, it’s not such good news for Williams. And he will now miss the opportunity to impress during the preseason games in August.

Williams got some game time in last year’s preseason, playing in all four games. He finished with 37 carries for 128 yards and a touchdown, averaging just under 3.5 yards per carry. Williams also caught five passes for 57 yards.

It was hardly a dominant preseason performance, but it helped Williams secure a roster spot ahead of Tra Carson. He entered 2019 as the third-string running back behind Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams.

Now, with Jones and Jamaal Williams returning, plus the addition of Dillon and the return of Tyler Ervin, there might not be room on the roster for Dexter Williams. The preseason would’ve given him a great opportunity to get some game time and show the coaches what he can do. With the starters rested, a strong preseason by Williams could’ve been enough to earn a spot on the initial 53-man roster.
