Running backs (4) – 10/53

Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, AJ Dillon, Tyler Ervin

All summer long, my prediction has been that the Packers will keep four running backs on the roster. I did seriously consider including fullback John Lovett in the final 53 but I couldn’t create room. It was difficult to make a case for cutting any of the other 53 players in favor of Lovett, so consider him the 54th player in this 53-man roster prediction.

With Lovett not making the roster, the majority of the fullback duties will likely go to third-round pick Josiah Deguara, whose blocking ability could get him on the field early in his career. We’ll get to Deguara later on when we discuss the tight ends.

The Packers’ top three at running back will be Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams and AJ Dillon. In what order? That remains to be seen. Jones is the starter, we know that much. But who will earn the most snaps behind Jones as the number two? Will it still be Williams, or will second-round pick Dillon make a big impact in his rookie season?

Tyler Ervin is a versatile part of the Packers’ offense. While he’s listed as a running back, he could also line up at wide receiver, and we all know his special teams talent.
