4. Defense to build on recent performances

While the second-half performance from the offense was frustrating on Saturday night, it was great to see the defense step up and win the game. There have been some encouraging signs from the defense of late. They will be challenged by better teams in the playoffs but let’s hope the defense can continue to build on these recent performances.

The secondary has been particularly impressive.

Jaire Alexander is having a phenomenal season, but the Packers are now also getting great contributions from 2019 first-round pick Darnell Savage and Adrian Amos. Amos was all over the field breaking up passes against the Panthers.

Rashan Gary also continues to improve. He has missed some snaps due to injury in recent games but still has 2.5 sacks and four quarterback hits over the past three weeks. Preston Smith has stepped up with 2.5 sacks, four quarterback hits, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown over the past four games.

This defense still has a lot of work to do. Opponents are going to test them against the run in the playoffs, especially if the Packers come up against a team like the Los Angeles Rams.

But there have been some positive takeaways on defense in recent weeks, and this is something they can build on.
