Packers: Kevin King returns to Green Bay on a one-year deal
It felt like a forgone conclusion in 2020 that Kevin King would not be a member of the Green Bay Packers in 2021. Then again, just a few weeks ago it felt like Aaron Jones would also be wearing another jersey in 2021, but he signed back with the Packers on a four-year deal.
Now, the Packers surprised a lot of people by bringing King back on a one-year, $6 million deal.
While many Packers fans want to complain about bringing King back, he really wasn’t bad last year. He was solid in coverage for most of the season, but his blunder at the end of the first half in the NFC Championship Game is what most fans will immediately bring up to show that he isn’t any good.
A lot of his current and former teammates also seem to be pretty excited that he is back, so they must think he is good enough to help them win.

Now that we know King will be back in 2021, it’s fair to wonder whether the Packers will still address the position in the draft or even free agency.
I still think there’s a pretty good chance the Packers draft a cornerback in the upcoming draft. King will provide some depth and stability at the position, but I think (stop me if you’ve heard this before) King will not be a Packer after this season.
This deal is a win for both sides. King can rebuild his value for next year’s free agency, and the Packers will have a veteran at a relatively cheap rate for a year to bridge the gap for a rookie cornerback.
Whether you like it or not, King is coming back and it looks like he is another piece for the Packers to run it back and go all in this year before they have to figure out what to do with Rodgers and possibly blow it all up due to cap issues in the future.
