The Packers’ next All-Pro defensive back

1. S Darnell Savage

There isn’t a player on the Packers’ roster I’m more excited about this year than third-year safety Darnell Savage. The way Savage played in the second half of last season should excite every Packers fan. If he can match those performances over the entire 2021 season, he’ll be entering the All-Pro conversation just like cornerback Jaire Alexander did in his third year.

If All-Pro votes were only based on the second half of the season, Savage would likely have made the team. That’s how impressive his performances were down the stretch in 2020. In those eight games, he intercepted four passes and made 10 pass defenses.

Savage is a game-changing talent. He’s phenomenal in coverage and has shown on many occasions that he can come up with a key takeaway. Much like Alexander, Savage has impressed in his first two seasons and looks close to becoming a Pro Bowler. I’m predicting that, also like Alexander, Savage takes that step in his third season and becomes one of the best safeties in football.

With Savage, Alexander, Adrian Amos, and first-round pick Eric Stokes, the Packers’ secondary can be dominant this year.

Looking ahead to the 2021 season, which five Packers would you pick as potential breakout stars?
