If you thought the wide receiver depth chart was set for the regular season, think again. Juwann Winfree has been one of the standout performers so far at training camp and is making a strong case for a spot on the initial 53-man roster this summer.

Winfree was a sixth-round pick by the Denver Broncos only two years ago but he was waived in 2020. After spending the majority of last season on the Packers’ practice squad, he’s now aiming to secure a spot on the 53 and be a part of Matt LaFleur’s offense.

The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman tweeted today that Winfree is going to “make it pretty hard to cut him” after watching him impress in one-on-ones against defensive backs. All week long there have been similar comments from reporters at camp.

Cheesehead TV’s Andy Herman wrote that Winfree has been the “breakout star of the offseason” and is “making plays every day”.

We can safely assume Davante Adams, Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Amari Rodgers will all make the Packers’ 53-man roster. A few weeks ago, had we said the team would keep a sixth receiver, most would guess it would be either Devin Funchess or Malik Taylor.

Well, it seems Winfree has other ideas. As it stands, it’s hard to see him not being part of the 53-man roster next month.
