Devin Funchess

Devin Funchess has shown he still has plenty to offer an offense in the NFL. That could still be in Green Bay. However, with so much competition at the wide receiver position, there’s no guarantee Funchess will make the 53-man roster.

Teams can always benefit from adding a talented pass catcher to their roster, so surely there would be some interest in trading for Funchess. He’s an experienced player who has previously been a WR2 in his career.

Overall, Funchess “had been having a quiet camp”, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, but he impressed during Family Night and also had an excellent preseason opener, catching six passes for 70 yards. He was dominant against opposing defensive backs that night. While he often played opposite backups, he was clearly the best receiver on the field.

With Funchess competing with Malik Taylor, Juwann Winfree, and Equanimeous St. Brown for possibly only one remaining spot on the roster, it’s far from a guarantee that he will be catching passes from Aaron Rodgers this season.

But it’s also fair to say Funchess is too good to cut. There’s no doubt he can help this offense in 2021. So maybe the answer would be to work out a trade with a WR-needy team and bring back a draft pick.
