Kyler Gordon, CB, Washington

Don’t underestimate the Packers’ potential need at cornerback this offseason. Much will depend on their free agency moves as Rasul Douglas, Chandon Sullivan, and Kevin King all have expiring contracts. Bringing back Douglas would help in a big way. But with all three of them set to hit free agency as things stand, the Packers may need to draft a cornerback early.

One player to watch is Washington’s Kyler Gordon.

According to Pro Football Focus, Gordon didn’t allow a single touchdown on 722 career coverage snaps at Washington. In his final season, he had two interceptions and seven pass defenses.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah has Gordon as the 20th best player in the class and thinks he “will rise up through the draft process and should be a Day 1 starter”.

Gordon has the versatility to play on the outside or inside. Jaire Alexander can also play that “star” position in Joe Barry’s defense, so the Packers would have flexibility. If Gordon played mostly in the slot, Alexander and Eric Stokes could play the majority of their snaps on the outside.

Bringing back Rasul Douglas should be a priority for the Packers but it’s possible he signs elsewhere. Cornerback is perhaps a bigger need than many realize given Green Bay’s lack of depth behind the starters. In Gordon, they would be getting a talented young corner who can start immediately and offers the versatility to play on the outside or inside.
