Packers: 3 Aaron Rodgers trade packages that make sense
Aaron Rodgers trade from Packers to Steelers
This isn’t the type of move the Pittsburgh Steelers typically make but, then again, it’s not every day that the back-to-back MVP winner could be available in a trade. Rodgers would help the Steelers become serious contenders in the AFC, despite the fact it’s a tough conference to win.
Pittsburgh already has enough cap space to take on Rodgers’ deal, and a contract extension could then help lower his 2022 cap hit more. The Steelers should have the cap room to not only trade for Rodgers, but also be active participants in free agency.
Again, without any Steelers players being included in the trade, the asking price begins at three first-round picks. That’s a lot to give up, but potentially well worth it for the Steelers to land the winner of the past two NFL MVP awards. A second-round pick this year and a third-round pick in 2023 are also added in.
Other possible scenarios here could see one of those picks removed for a talented young player like interior offensive lineman Kendrick Green, a third-round pick in 2021.
But here, I went just for the picks, giving GM Brian Gutekunst the flexibility to choose the players he wants to rebuild the roster in the coming seasons.
