Rasul Douglas: Walks

As much as we would all love to see Rasul Douglas back with the Packers, is it that realistic? With only so much cap space to go around and re-signing Campbell the priority, there’s a good chance Douglas signs a big deal elsewhere.

Spotrac estimates that Douglas’ deal could hit $9.2 million per year. Green Bay needs to pay All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander, and the team also drafted Eric Stokes in the first round last spring. Cornerback depth may be a concern, but can the Packers afford to pay Douglas over $9 million per year when they have bigger needs such as inside linebacker?

Green Bay is lucky to have a talented young cornerback duo in Alexander and Stokes, making it less of a need to re-sign Douglas.

Maybe if Campbell signs elsewhere, the Packers will turn their attention to a long-term deal with Douglas. But coming off a five-interception season, now is the time for Douglas to land a big long-term deal, and I’m not sure the Packers will be able to compete with other interested teams.

Douglas was arguably the best in-season addition in the NFL last year along with the Los Angeles Rams bringing in Odell Beckham Jr. and Von Miller.

After such a strong season, Douglas could be gone in free agency.
