Round 2 (53): Jalen Pitre, S, Baylor

Safety is possibly the Packers’ biggest need that nobody is talking about. Adrian Amos is one of the most consistent safeties in the league, but Darnell Savage didn’t have a great 2021 season. The depth behind this duo is also a real concern.

But never fear, because Jalen Pitre can help. If the Packers re-sign Rasul Douglas then draft Pitre, we could be talking about one of the most talented and deepest secondaries in the NFL.

Versatility. Pitre can line up in many different positions. His ability to play a number of roles in the secondary would help him make an impact early on in his career.

“The NFL has a demand for safeties with Pitre’s skill set but there just simply aren’t many safety prospects that fit the bill,” writes The Draft Network’s Keith Sanchez.

Pitre could be a good fit in the “star” position in Joe Barry’s defense. Last season at Baylor, Pitre made seven pass defenses and two interceptions, along with 3.5 sacks. He can make a big impact in pass defense.

He’s also excellent defending the run. According to Pro Football Focus, he earned a 92.7 run defense grade last season, the highest among all Power Five defensive backs since 2015.

The Packers will need to add a safety at some point in the draft. Pitre would be a great choice if he’s available at No. 53.
