Packers three-round mock draft: F them picks trade edition
Round 2 (53): Christian Watson, WR, North Dakota State
Work on the wide receiver corps continues. North Dakota State’s Christian Watson could become a WR1. If this mock draft came true, he would get to develop as the WR2 alongside DK Metcalf.
Many of the Packers’ great wide receivers in the Aaron Rodgers era were second-round picks. Davante Adams, Jordy Nelson, Greg Jennings and Randall Cobb were all drafted in the second round. Maybe Watson becomes the next great Packers receiver picked on Day 2.
Once again, Watson is a phenomenal athlete. Like Mafe, Watson has an RAS score of 10. He has the size at 6-foot-4, 208 pounds. He has the speed, running a 4.36 40-yard dash. He has the deep-threat ability the Packers need.
Watson ticks just about every box the Packers look for in a wide receiver. It would be a dream scenario for Green Bay if Watson is still on the board at No. 53 overall.
To rebuild the wide receiver corps, GM Brian Gutekunst needs to add more than one player at the position, possibly through a combination of the draft, free agency, and trades. After trading for Metcalf earlier on, adding Watson on Day 2 would be a home run for the Packers.
As NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah noted, Watson could become “one of the best pass-catchers in this class”.
